1500 OCEAN, The Del’s signature restaurant, opened in 2006 to rave reviews in the Wine Spectator and Bon Appetit. Chef de Cuisine Brian Sinnott works with local farmers and producers in creating the restaurant’s fresh Southland coastal cuisine. His seasonal menus offer selections from Santa Ynez to Cabo San Lucas. In addition, the restaurant includes a vast wine library highlighting local vintners.

This restaurant also offers a variety of elegant indoor and outdoor settings. A row of three interior coastal cabanas, oversized booths with sheer draperies, provides intimate seating, creating a “room within a room” sensibility. The indoor bar provides an energetic setting and a feature wall of back-lit, “sunset” glass.

The restaurant’s new outdoor Sunset Bar, complete with fire pits, cocktails, appetizers and live entertainment, offers the perfect West Coast venue to watch the sun set over the Pacific.

This is Oceanside and North County’s most spectacular new restaurant. It overlooks the Oceanside Pier and it’s breathtaking sunset view is unsurpassed! They serve fresh seafood and steaks nightly with an emphasis on presentation and innovation. For example, a sensational appetizer is their crab, shrimp and lobster cake ancho aioli with a mango salsa. It’s a winner!

Another delicacy is the spicy tuna eggplant tempura. And their main course selections are equally spectacular! You can’t go wrong with their grilled king salmon with a mushroom-spinach risotto or their sizzling 16-oz certified angus New York steak with mashed potatoes. Equally delicious is the tapenade roasted organic half chicken with broccolini, polenta cake and a tarragon.

Then there is steamed Alaskan king crab legs. You will love this place. They also have two private dining rooms and a spacious patio to host your next big event.

Lunch is served Tues.-Sun. Dinner is served beginning at 5 p.m. nightly ($18.95-$42.95) with a happy hour from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. daily in their Vodka Lounge featuring more than 100 vodkas. Their cocktail lounge specials are attractions in themselves. For example Wine Wednesdays offer 50 percent off selected bottles of wine.

This is a fabulous restaurant featuring the finest tasting Indian cuisine in San Diego. Their all-you-can-eat lunch buffet and dinner buffet are very popular. However, it is from their extensive menu that you will find the truly memorable Indian cuisine that has made Ashoka the Great so well known. And you can also order your meal to taste, be it mild, medium or spicy hot. A definite crowd-pleaser is the chicken tikka masala. It’s pieces of boneless chicken breast marinated in spices and yogurt and roasted, then blended in one of their many delicious curry sauces.

Their curries are hard to beat, as are their tandoori delicacies. Be sure to order a mangolassi, which is a classic Indian drink make with yogurt and mangos. And no Indian meal should be eaten without an order of their garlic naan. Vegetarians will definitely be pleased with their many selections, as well. This award winner is a perfect choice for outstanding Indian cuisine.

Open daily for lunch, 11 a.m.–4 p.m. and dinner, 4 p.m.–10 p.m.; Sat. and Sun., 11 a.m.–10 p.m. ($16–$20). Daily buffet lunch ($10.95) and buffet dinner Mon. and Tues. only ($14.95).

Casino Pauma has most of the bells and whistle that the gigantic San Diego casinos have except one. It’s smaller, which is an asset if you like the feeling of being a big fish in a small pond. Instead of there being a maze of rooms filled with slot machines, you’ll find plenty to choose in one large ballroom.

Card players won’t get lost in the shuffle either. Casino Pauma offers two dozen tables in a room away from the slot machines. This 42,000 sq. ft. casino is all under one huge roof, yet it isn’t big enough to get lost, as some casinos are. And if you are a smoker, you’ll enjoy the fact that smoking is allowed throughout the casino. So you won’t have to go outside to have a smoke and then come back and resume your gambling.

And you won’t have to search around for their cocktail lounge either. It’s the first thing you see when you step inside the casino. It’s thatched roofed architectural rendering is the theme portrayed throughout the casino. It begins and ends with the beautiful, block long palm tree lined entrance to the casino itself. While there are lots of parking spaces the casino isn’t so large that you have to flag down a tram just to get to the entrance. Yet, there are handsome doormen on hand to greet you and open the doors to one of the friendliest casinos in San Diego.

Both locations offer quick, friendly service in a comfortable setting with plenty of comfortable booths. The menu is jammed-packed with mouthwatering selections.
For lunch, hungry diners will be hard-pressed to finish one of their sky high sandwiches such as the Empire State Building. This monster is a hot pastrami, Swiss cheese and corned beef extravaganza served on rye with Russian dressing. And their hot pastrami was voted best pastrami in San Diego by the San Diego Jewish Journal. Other sure to please selections include their patty melt and their smoked turkey club.

Topping the list for dinner entrées is the Atlantic salmon with a savory lemon caper sauce. No less spectacular is the liver and onions with their stuffed cabbage rolls. Desserts include delicious German chocolate cake and, of course, the best tasting New York cheesecake you have ever had. They have a huge banquets and catering selection offered at very competitive prices.

The stylish decor and DJ playing hip music make this the perfect place for a night out. They feature more than 40 sakes, 25 award-winning wines, microbrews from local breweries, a private VIP booth and more than 35 gourmet specialty rolls.

All of their entrées are beautifully and artistically presented under the watchful eyes of their master chef Anthony Sinsay formerly of Nobu and the SLS Hotel. And they taste as good as they look!

Their extensive menu of mouthwatering options makes it difficult to decide what to order. A great way to start any meal is with the ahi poke. It’s diced ahi tuna mixed with chuka salad, green onions, ponzu sauce, sesame seeds and togarashi chili spice and served in a martini glass. Another delicious entrée is their signature Miso Harney roll. It’s eel, cream cheese and avocado tempura fried to perfection and drizzled in eel sauce and sesame seeds.

They also offer nigiri, sashimi, tempura, sushi combinations and a variety of Japanese entrées. Plus, it’s the only place in San Diego with its own sake bar! Harney Sushi has enhanced the art of presentation, perfected the taste of sushi and created a trendy atmosphere making it the best of the best in Japanese dining.

Open for lunch Mon.–Fri., 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m.; and dinner nightly 5:30 p.m.– midnight. Late night happy hour 10 p.m.–midnight nightly.

The legendary Hotel del Coronado is located on 28 oceanfront acres on Coronado Island. Built in 1888 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977, The Del has played host to celebrities, presidents and dignitaries from around the world. Today, guests can select accommodations in the historic Victorian Building, in the contemporary Ocean Towers and California Cabanas, or in the new exclusive oceanfront cottages and villas at Beach Village at The Del.

Continually rated a top hotel in the world, The Del maintains its rich history and offers al-fresco dining at several restaurants and bars, an oceanfront spa, unique shopping with 22 boutiques, hair & nail salon, endless recreation and the introduction of 2 new activity centers for kids and teens.

With its iconic red turrets piercing the taut horizontal lines of an azure California skyline, the Hotel del Coronado radiates with a confidence of gracious Victorian splendor that is without equal.

Today, The Del offers guests a unique combination of modern luxury touched with the charm and grace of this fairytale castle. Include its stunning beachfront locale and it’s easy to see why The Del has been called “one of the top ten resorts in the world” by USA Today.

The quintessential San Diego vacation destination, the Hotel del Coronado offers something for everyone. For families, The Del is the idyllic locale for those who yearn for a memorable vacation getaway. For couples, the resort’s enchanting island setting and classic architecture form the perfect backdrop for a romantic escape.

Thus making The Del the number-one wedding destination in America as rated by the Travel Channel. And when it comes to business, few hotels or conference centers can match the unique surroundings that frame the more than 65,000-square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor meeting and exhibition space.

But to truly understand the wonder that is the Hotel del Coronado, you have to experience this legendary San Diego, California resort for yourself.

San Diego’s Best Brunch in a Historic Setting
Today, the Crown Room’s tradition of elegance continues as it plays host to an award-winning Sunday Brunch. Seven distinct stations offer something to satisfy every craving including prepared-to-order omelets and breakfast classics, gourmet cheeses and charcuterie, a shellfish bar and sushi, hand-carved prime rib, dim sum and much more. Finish off this feast with dessert presentations created for the most demanding sweet tooth. And, of course, no brunch would be complete without a mimosa, Bloody Mary or freshly squeezed screwdriver.

Over the past century, the Crown Room has been a fixture at The Del. The room is considered an architectural marvel, where the rectangular space is distinguished by its 33-foot-high, self supported, vaulted Oregon sugar pine ceiling. Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum is credited with designing the crown chandeliers. The Crown Room was the sight for Charles Lindbergh’s celebration banquet, as well as the first state dinner held outside of the White House.

The Inn is a French chateau-inspired winery and inn, that sits on a hill overlooking the beautiful wine country on 11 acres of pristine land. Without a doubt, this Tuscany inn is one of those special places that only exists in a few places in the world. And it rings true for being the best of the best.

Each morning the inn provides guests with a complimentary full breakfast for two. In the evening they offer a wine reception with Hors D’oeuvres and a souvenir wine goblet in their, impressive to say the least, large, beautiful marble wine tasting room. If you’re not an overnight guest at the Chateau wine tastings are offered for only $10, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To get to the tasting room you’ll walk down a wide marble staircase from the impressive lobby.

The Inn features 5 luxurious suites and 19 spacious vineyard view rooms with elegant French furnishings. They have private balconies overlooking beautiful gardens, fountains and vineyards. Guests always rave about their classic marble bathrooms, beautiful Jacuzzi bathtubs for two, big showers, gas fireplaces and down comforters. And the king and double queen size beds are heavenly soft. Yes, everything is first class and that’s why you should stay here. Plus, the rates are incredibly reasonable ($179–$275) Sun.–Thurs. and ($295–$450) Fri.–Sat.

Every word of this fairy-tale description is true. That’s why the Inn is highly sought after for weddings and special events. It’s small enough to be intimate, yet large enough to accommodate magnificent weddings and special events for up to 250 people. They are equipped to do everything from Masquerade Balls to business dinners and everything in between.

You may also want to consider joining Churon’s Wine Club, in which you will enjoy the convenience of having two premium selection wines delivered right to your home or office, six times per year and several other staying discounts for purchases or vacationing at the Inn. Wine tasting is also available for only $10, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

A San Diego treasure for more than 25 years is Leucadia Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant. As you enter the restaurant the tantalizing aroma of freshly baked garlic bread fills the air, which is a promise of good things to come. They have dozens of delicious pastas and entrées to choose from. These include wonderful-tasting lasagna, savory chicken Parmesan, tantalizing eggplant Parmesan and memorable tortellini with chicken.

As for their pizzas, they have more than 26 specialty pizzas to choose from including the shrimp garlic pizza, Hawaiian and pesto. There is something for everyone. A great choice is the roasted garlic chicken pizza. Even its name sounds mouthwatering. It’s loaded with cheese, garlic, scallions and chicken, with a crispy, crunchy crust. If you have room, don’t forget their gourmet desserts, which are prepared fresh daily by pastry chef Nikki Schaeffer. With such great-tasting food, it’s no wonder that they also offer to bring it to you. Their full menu can be delivered to your home, office or the beach.

They deliver anywhere in Leucadia, South Carlsbad, La Costa, Encinitas, Olivenhain, Carmel Valley, Rancho Santa Fe, Sorrento Valley, Sorrento Mesa, La Jolla, North Clairemont, University City, Cardiff and Solana Beach. Open daily for lunch and dinner, perfect for catering, order by 10 a.m. to be catered by noon. For reservations and catering call the specific location nearest to you when placing your order. Complete menu and ordering available online for delivery.

Their catering team is great for bringing gourmet pizzas, pastas, salads and subs to your corporate parties, rehearsal dinners, birthdays and any type of event. Both their La Jolla and Encinitas locations are great for casual banquets in their large outdoor patios.

Happy Hour Specials Mon.–Fri., 4 p.m.–6 p.m., ($2) off appetizers & ($1) off beer, wine & well drinks (Encinitas & La Jolla only).

Be sure to try the red dragon tanned roll with spicy crab and asparagus inside. On the outside is pepper-crusted seared tuna with avocado on top drizzled with ponzu sauce. Their Cloud 9 specialty roll is also a winner. It’s filled with spicy scallops and cucumber, then topped with fresh halibut and avocado. Other entrées for non-sushi lovers include pasta and a host of seafood selections. The teriyaki grilled salmon is a real favorite too!

This delightful restaurant at the top of Horton Plaza shopping center features outstanding regional Chinese cuisine, which is balanced in taste and texture. The atmosphere is inviting and comfortable; the menu a treat. They serve all your favorites like sweet-and-sour pork, kung pao shrimp, tea-smoked duck and braised string beans. But don’t stop there. The honey walnut shrimp deserves special attention. Roasted walnuts covered in a light honey glaze, accompany tender, succulent shrimp. No wonder it’s so popular.

If you want variety, then this three-ingredient taste is the perfect choice. Delectable morsels of shrimp, beef, and chicken covered in a delicious mushroom soy sauce and mixed with broccoli, mushrooms, water chestnut slices and bamboo shoots is absolutely great. Yes, and there’s fortune cookies, too. They’re foiled covered and dipped in white chocolate. Panda Inn is also a great choice for that mid-shopping meal. Patio dining. Banquets up to 115.

The Veterans Museum and Memorial Center occupies the former chapel of the Naval Hospital on Inspiration Point in San Diego’s Balboa Park. The original hospital buildings have been a familiar and nostalgic landmark to countless naval personnel and San Diegans alike since the early 1920s, although the chapel itself was not built until the World War II period. Today the Museum houses a unique collection of artifacts, memorabilia and papers as well as a library holding more than one thousand volumes. Dedicated to veterans of all conflicts, the Museum’s exhibits feature World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor, the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, Desert Storm, Women in the Military, and paintings by local artists of military subjects.

Do not miss a living history tour by their docents who have been there! See the first American flag to fall in the Philippines. Enjoy the Museum’s unique collections of memorabilia and artwork, dating from the Civil War to the present. This is the place to see and hear history.

The Veterans Museum and Memorial Center is one of the very few places you will find that covers all branches of the service and is indeed a home for all veteran groups. Take a moment to view a sampling of the Museum.

Plus, there are several tables as well as a large patio where you can be served complete meals with steamed rice, miso soup and a Japanese salad.

Appetizers include sashimi to skewers of teriyaki chicken. Be sure to try their Mission Beach roll, which is a local favorite. Another favorite is the sushi pizza. This entrée is worth the trip to Mission Beach just to try it! Imagine a large ring made of California roll, covered with yellowtail and crabmeat.

It is artfully decorated with a wonderful secret sauce called ecstasy sauce; then it’s broiled quickly in an oven so that the top is crispy and warm. You have never tasted anything so delightful.

Parking: valet ($2), street parking and a self parking lot a block north of Saska’s on the same side of the street. Be sure to notify the hostess when you arrive, or else they will tow your car.

Featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Dine here once and you’ll undoubtedly become a regular. The reasons are simple—the food tastes great; pretty, young, high-energy servers provide excellent service and the atmosphere is upbeat and friendly. Plus, the retro decor, which is fashioned after a 1940’s railroad dining car, is sparkling new and stylish. Accents like movie studio light stands and comfortable booths make it easy to fall in love with this place. The dining selections are almost endless. These include eggs Benedict, eggs anyway you like ’em and five big omelets.

Lunch selections include six big burgers and 18 sandwiches like the open-faced turkey sandwich served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. When dinner rolls around, you’ll be equally challenged with the many selections offered. Other favorite entrées include East Coast lobster rolls, clam rolls, New England clam chowder and chicken noodle soup or “Jewish penicillin.” Plus, their clams are ?own in from Boston several days a week. Then there’s a delicious chicken pot pie served with mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables. Their desserts are no less spectacular!

Winner of the 2006, 2007 and 2008 San Diego Restaurant Association’s Gold Medallion Award for “Best Sunday Brunch Restaurant.” Since 1971 Tom Ham’s has been one of San Diego’s best known landmark restaurants. It’s beautifully located on the western tip of Harbor Island on San Diego Bay, where it enjoys a fantastic view of the downtown skyline and the Coronado bridge. The restaurant boasts a Coast Guard-approved beacon, which is Beacon 9 on the nautical map.

This makes it the only documented restaurant in the continental United States that is also a working, navigational lighthouse. To commemorate this, they serve a signature ?ashing cocktail appropriately named “Beacon #9.” Its historical early California theme underscores the cuisine. Delicious seafood entrées are crafted with care including their shrimp diablo, which are four stuffed jumbo Gulf shrimp, wrapped in bacon and served with riscotto and a medley of vegetables. Don’t miss one of their incredible desserts. For an incredible view ask for table 109.

Their happy hour theme is Drinkin’ with Lincoln and features drink and appetizer specials. Open for lunch Mon.–Fri., 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m., ($12–$17); dinner nightly 4:30 p.m.–10 p.m. Champagne Sunday Brunch, 9:30 a.m.–2 p.m. ($28). Happy hour Mon.–Fri., 4 p.m.–6 p.m.

Their early cocktail hour features half price cocktails as well as a late night cocktail hour Mon.–Sat., 10 p.m.–closing with half price cocktails and half off lounge bites. They also have a three course meal offer nightly for ($35) per person. This is definitely the best upscale restaurant in San Diego. Join Truluck’s Seafood, Steak & Crab House for their Crab Extravaganza.

Each Monday night at Truluck’s is their impressive, to say the least, All-You-Can- Eat fresh Maine Jonah Crab Claw extravaganza! Their spectacular wine collection features more than 100 wines, which can be sampled via wine flights, by the glass or by the bottle. Through their unique wine flights selection, Truluck’s presents a great opportunity to sample up to four wines for as low as ($17.50), and these wines are the world’s best. A hit amongst local professionals is their nightly cocktail hour in the Stone Crab Lounge, 5 p.m.–7 p.m., featuring half price appetizers and 25 percent off all bottles of wine. As for the rest of the menu, you will be seriously impressed with the superb selection of seafood, chops and steaks.

Their customer service and atmosphere are second to none. An added touch of class is contemporary music played live on a beautiful grand piano. For a special occasion or any occasion, Truluck’s is the place to dine. They also have a beautiful venue for banquets and parties.
