This is a fabulous restaurant featuring the finest tasting Indian cuisine in San Diego. Their all-you-can-eat lunch buffet and dinner buffet are very popular. However, it is from their extensive menu that you will find the truly memorable Indian cuisine that has made Ashoka the Great so well known. And you can also order your meal to taste, be it mild, medium or spicy hot. A definite crowd-pleaser is the chicken tikka masala. It’s pieces of boneless chicken breast marinated in spices and yogurt and roasted, then blended in one of their many delicious curry sauces.

Their curries are hard to beat, as are their tandoori delicacies. Be sure to order a mangolassi, which is a classic Indian drink make with yogurt and mangos. And no Indian meal should be eaten without an order of their garlic naan. Vegetarians will definitely be pleased with their many selections, as well. This award winner is a perfect choice for outstanding Indian cuisine.

Open daily for lunch, 11 a.m.–4 p.m. and dinner, 4 p.m.–10 p.m.; Sat. and Sun., 11 a.m.–10 p.m. ($16–$20). Daily buffet lunch ($10.95) and buffet dinner Mon. and Tues. only ($14.95).

San Diego’s famous restaurateur, Dianne Powers, has opened her newly relocated We Casa de Bandini restaurant at The Forum in Carlsbad. The architecture and decor are reminiscent of Mexico’s beautiful and festive haciendas. Diners will enjoy fresh, delicious Mexican cuisine to the tune of the lively mariachi band, in an environment that showcases many beautiful facets of Mexican culture.

Its impressive decor features colorful dining rooms and magnificent patios replete with enchanting lighting, splashing fountains, and lush landscaping. You will find many familiar features from their original location such as the original hand-carved stone fountain; the antique leaded-glass door dividers; the chandeliers; and our magnificent collection of Santos and antiques; even the hand-painted wall borders that were inspired by those painted in the California missions have been lovingly created.

At the center of your dining experience will be their award-winning regional cuisine expertly created using quality ingredients and sauces prepared fresh daily. They also specialize in unique seafood entrees, several healthy choices with calorie and nutritional information and, of course, the same frosty giant margaritas that San Diegan’s have craved for decades.

In one of La Jolla’s most romantic settings, this restaurant overlooks the ocean and the beautiful La Jolla Cove. Romantic sunsets and dramatic views are the order of the day. And the cuisine is just as great. For a really romantic table, ask for table 7 or 20 inside, or table 75, 76 or 77 outside. As you would expect, fresh seafood is the specialty. A real crowd pleaser is the pan-seared Pacific king salmon, which is served with a port wine balsamic glaze, haricot vert and grilled radicchio salad, celery root and horseradish purée and a Meyer lemon crème fraiche.

Another winner is the flame grilled sushi grade ahi served with nori and sesame sticky rice, spicy savory cabbage and oyster mushrooms with a miso ginger sauce. The Alaskan king crab legs are good, as is the filet mignon and the grilled Australian double lamb chops. Another plus is the Oyster Bar, which is open daily after 3 p.m. It is the perfect place for shellfish delicacies. This is California dining at its best.

Their two dozen main course selections include, Alaskan king crab legs, seasonal soft-shell crab, local spiny lobster, and chargrilled filet mignon. They even stock live Maine lobster for broiling! Childrens menu. Meeting and party rooms. Validated underground parking.

Open for lunch and dinner daily with an impressive Champagne Brunch on Sundays starting from ($12). Open for lunch Mon.–Sat., 11:30 a.m.– 3 p.m. ($10–$30); dinner daily 5:30 p.m.–10 p.m. ($18–$50). Sunday Brunch 10:30 a.m.– 3 p.m. ($8–$24). Both locations offer quick, friendly service in a comfortable setting with plenty of comfortable booths. The menu is jammed-packed with mouthwatering selections. Whether you choose blintzes or lox, cream cheese and bagels for breakfast, everything is good.

For lunch, hungry diners will be hard-pressed to finish one of their sky high sandwiches such as the Empire State Building. This monster is a hot pastrami, Swiss cheese and corned beef extravaganza served on rye with Russian dressing. And their hot pastrami was voted best pastrami in San Diego by the San Diego Jewish Journal. Other sure to please selections include their patty melt and their smoked turkey club.

Topping the list for dinner entrées is the Atlantic salmon with a savory lemon caper sauce. No less spectacular is the liver and onions with their stuffed cabbage rolls. Desserts include delicious German chocolate cake and, of course, the best tasting New York cheesecake you have ever had. They have a huge banquets and catering selection offered at very competitive prices.

At Fat City Steakhouse, it’s the exceptional steaks that keep their customers coming back again and again. Their beef is hand-cut on-site and aged for 21 days before it’s grilled to perfection. They offer a signature steak called the House Special, but every cut they serve tastes like it is the house special. One example is the prime bone-in rib eye steak, which is as delicious to taste as it is to look at. No less inspiring is the juicy and tender porterhouse steak, which barely fits on the huge platter it’s served on. Meals also come with your choice of shoe string potatoes, baked potato, basmati rice or fresh vegetables.

They also have a nice selection of chicken and seafood entrées including the grilled salmon fillets. Dine on their outdoor terrace surrounded by lush plants or inside with seating in plush black leather booths. Their house dessert is also something to rave about! It’s their homemade banana cream pie, which rivals every other signature dessert in town.

Adding to the mystique of this landmark restaurant is their popular cocktail lounge. It has an early California gold rush bar, which actually came from a gold mining town in Northern California. Fat City Steakhouse is centrally located in Little Italy near downtown San Diego so it’s easy to find. And this is especially true at night with its eye-catching pink and baby blue neon lights that light up the sky.

Today, the Crown Room’s tradition of elegance continues as it plays host to an award-winning Sunday Brunch. Seven distinct stations offer something to satisfy every craving including prepared-to-order omelets and breakfast classics, gourmet cheeses and charcuterie, a shellfish bar and sushi, hand-carved prime rib, dim sum and much more. Finish off this feast with dessert presentations created for the most demanding sweet tooth. And, of course, no brunch would be complete without a mimosa, Bloody Mary or freshly squeezed screwdriver.

Over the past century, the Crown Room has been a fixture at The Del. The room is considered an architectural marvel, where the rectangular space is distinguished by its 33-foot-high, self supported, vaulted Oregon sugar pine ceiling. Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum is credited with designing the crown chandeliers. The Crown Room was the sight for Charles Lindbergh’s celebration banquet, as well as the first state dinner held outside of the White House.

It was also the setting for two bar scenes in the 1980s hit movie Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis. The bar is popular with locals and visitors and has been a landmark downtown destination for more than 25 years. The barbecued beef, chicken, hot links and pork dishes not only smell good, they taste great!

These meals, which are perfectly seasoned from family recipes, also include two of the following side dishes: coleslaw, beans, corn on the cob, potato salad, french fries or onion rings.

For 58 years this family owned San Diego favorite has been serving the best-tasting lasagna, ravioli, eggplant, macaroni and cheese, chicken marsala and mouthwatering pizzas in town. Bargain minded diners will appreciate these two offers: 15 percent off your dinner bill excluding alcohol and tax or buy one entree or pizza and get the second one at 50 percent off with ($11) limit. Plus, every thing is made the old-fashioned way from recipes handed down from generation to generation.

Always delicious is their homemade lasagna and ravioli combinations. They are so delicious that they almost melt in your mouth. And their dinners come with your choice of soup or salad and their homemade bread, which is baked fresh daily. A real crowd-pleaser is their pizza, which comes in both 12-inch and 16-inch sizes.

And all are handmade to order using the best ingredients. And they never skimp on the quality or the quantity of their toppings. Not to be overlooked are their torpedo sandwiches served hot or cold on their own oven baked rolls. So bring in your family and friends for great tasting food at reasonable prices.

This delightful restaurant at the top of Horton Plaza shopping center features outstanding regional Chinese cuisine, which is balanced in taste and texture. The atmosphere is inviting and comfortable; the menu a treat. They serve all your favorites like sweet-and-sour pork, kung pao shrimp, tea-smoked duck and braised string beans. But don’t stop there. The honey walnut shrimp deserves special attention. Roasted walnuts covered in a light honey glaze, accompany tender, succulent shrimp. No wonder it’s so popular.

If you want variety, then this three-ingredient taste is the perfect choice. Delectable morsels of shrimp, beef, and chicken covered in a delicious mushroom soy sauce and mixed with broccoli, mushrooms, water chestnut slices and bamboo shoots is absolutely great. Yes, and there’s fortune cookies, too. They’re foiled covered and dipped in white chocolate. Panda Inn is also a great choice for that mid-shopping meal. Patio dining. Banquets up to 115.

The Veterans Museum and Memorial Center occupies the former chapel of the Naval Hospital on Inspiration Point in San Diego’s Balboa Park. The original hospital buildings have been a familiar and nostalgic landmark to countless naval personnel and San Diegans alike since the early 1920s, although the chapel itself was not built until the World War II period. Today the Museum houses a unique collection of artifacts, memorabilia and papers as well as a library holding more than one thousand volumes. Dedicated to veterans of all conflicts, the Museum’s exhibits feature World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor, the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, Desert Storm, Women in the Military, and paintings by local artists of military subjects.

Do not miss a living history tour by their docents who have been there! See the first American flag to fall in the Philippines. Enjoy the Museum’s unique collections of memorabilia and artwork, dating from the Civil War to the present. This is the place to see and hear history.

The Veterans Museum and Memorial Center is one of the very few places you will find that covers all branches of the service and is indeed a home for all veteran groups. Take a moment to view a sampling of the Museum.

Featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Dine here once and you’ll undoubtedly become a regular. The reasons are simple—the food tastes great; pretty, young, high-energy servers provide excellent service and the atmosphere is upbeat and friendly. Plus, the retro decor, which is fashioned after a 1940’s railroad dining car, is sparkling new and stylish. Accents like movie studio light stands and comfortable booths make it easy to fall in love with this place. The dining selections are almost endless. These include eggs Benedict, eggs anyway you like ’em and five big omelets.

Lunch selections include six big burgers and 18 sandwiches like the open-faced turkey sandwich served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. When dinner rolls around, you’ll be equally challenged with the many selections offered. Other favorite entrées include East Coast lobster rolls, clam rolls, New England clam chowder and chicken noodle soup or “Jewish penicillin.” Plus, their clams are ?own in from Boston several days a week. Then there’s a delicious chicken pot pie served with mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables. Their desserts are no less spectacular!

A delightful Mexican restaurant that keeps getting better with age is La Piñata. It’s celebrating more than 80 years in business as the oldest operating restaurant in Old Town. There are two colorful dining rooms with a large variety of piñatas for sale, which hang delightfully from the ceiling. The upstairs dining room has a golf course view and can accommodate groups up to 50 people.

Lots of repeat diners prefer the large romantic patio with its fireplace and a bubbling fountain in a garden setting. Once seated, you have your choice of a huge, crisp cheese quesadilla or chips as a free appetizer. There are lots of standards such as tacos, enchiladas, chiles rellenos and burritos.

Plus, there are many really delicious house specialties including shrimp fajitas, fish tacos and pescados rancheros. It consists of Alaskan cod simmered in a salsa of green bell peppers, onions and tomatoes. It’s served with rice, beans and hot tortillas. The carne asada is served with savory guacamole, tender strips of roasted green California chili, beans and hot tortillas. Don’t overlook the combination plates or the Mexican-style lobster. They also have ample free parking.

On warm sunny days, be sure to dine on the patio overlooking the lush greenery of the park. A host of delicious soups, appetizers and tapas are all great beginnings to any meal.

Wonderful main course selections include beautifully presented jumbo prawns with garlic mashed potatoes. Also impressive is their pork prime rib, which is no less than four inches thick and delicious. Also worth ordering is the steamed sea bass. Wonderful menu selections and attentive service against the backdrop of beautiful Balboa Park make dining at The Prado an exciting experience. Weddings are a specialty here.

Winner of the 2006, 2007 and 2008 San Diego Restaurant Association’s Gold Medallion Award for “Best Sunday Brunch Restaurant.” Since 1971 Tom Ham’s has been one of San Diego’s best known landmark restaurants. It’s beautifully located on the western tip of Harbor Island on San Diego Bay, where it enjoys a fantastic view of the downtown skyline and the Coronado bridge. The restaurant boasts a Coast Guard-approved beacon, which is Beacon 9 on the nautical map.

This makes it the only documented restaurant in the continental United States that is also a working, navigational lighthouse. To commemorate this, they serve a signature ?ashing cocktail appropriately named “Beacon #9.” Its historical early California theme underscores the cuisine. Delicious seafood entrées are crafted with care including their shrimp diablo, which are four stuffed jumbo Gulf shrimp, wrapped in bacon and served with riscotto and a medley of vegetables. Don’t miss one of their incredible desserts. For an incredible view ask for table 109.

Their happy hour theme is Drinkin’ with Lincoln and features drink and appetizer specials. Open for lunch Mon.–Fri., 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m., ($12–$17); dinner nightly 4:30 p.m.–10 p.m. Champagne Sunday Brunch, 9:30 a.m.–2 p.m. ($28). Happy hour Mon.–Fri., 4 p.m.–6 p.m.

Their early cocktail hour features half price cocktails as well as a late night cocktail hour Mon.–Sat., 10 p.m.–closing with half price cocktails and half off lounge bites. They also have a three course meal offer nightly for ($35) per person. This is definitely the best upscale restaurant in San Diego. Join Truluck’s Seafood, Steak & Crab House for their Crab Extravaganza.

Each Monday night at Truluck’s is their impressive, to say the least, All-You-Can- Eat fresh Maine Jonah Crab Claw extravaganza! Their spectacular wine collection features more than 100 wines, which can be sampled via wine flights, by the glass or by the bottle. Through their unique wine flights selection, Truluck’s presents a great opportunity to sample up to four wines for as low as ($17.50), and these wines are the world’s best. A hit amongst local professionals is their nightly cocktail hour in the Stone Crab Lounge, 5 p.m.–7 p.m., featuring half price appetizers and 25 percent off all bottles of wine. As for the rest of the menu, you will be seriously impressed with the superb selection of seafood, chops and steaks.

Their customer service and atmosphere are second to none. An added touch of class is contemporary music played live on a beautiful grand piano. For a special occasion or any occasion, Truluck’s is the place to dine. They also have a beautiful venue for banquets and parties.
