Chef de Cuisine Brian Sinnott works with local farmers and producers in creating the restaurant’s fresh Southland coastal cuisine. His seasonal menus offer selections from Santa Ynez to Cabo San Lucas. In addition, the restaurant includes a vast wine library highlighting local vintners.

This restaurant also offers a variety of elegant indoor and outdoor settings. A row of three interior coastal cabanas, oversized booths with sheer draperies, provides intimate seating, creating a “room within a room” sensibility. The indoor bar provides an energetic setting and a feature wall of back-lit, “sunset” glass.

The restaurant’s new outdoor Sunset Bar, complete with fire pits, cocktails, appetizers and live entertainment, offers the perfect West Coast venue to watch the sun set over the Pacific.

They serve fresh seafood and steaks nightly with an emphasis on presentation and innovation. For example, a sensational appetizer is their crab, shrimp and lobster cake ancho aioli with a mango salsa. It’s a winner!

Another delicacy is the spicy tuna eggplant tempura. And their main course selections are equally spectacular! You can’t go wrong with their grilled king salmon with a mushroom-spinach risotto or their sizzling 16-oz certified angus New York steak with mashed potatoes. Equally delicious is the tapenade roasted organic half chicken with broccolini, polenta cake and a tarragon.

Then there is steamed Alaskan king crab legs. You will love this place. They also have two private dining rooms and a spacious patio to host your next big event.

Lunch is served Tues.-Sun. Dinner is served beginning at 5 p.m. nightly ($18.95-$42.95) with a happy hour from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. daily in their Vodka Lounge featuring more than 100 vodkas. Their cocktail lounge specials are attractions in themselves. For example Wine Wednesdays offer 50 percent off selected bottles of wine.

This family owned and operated restaurant has been a San Diegan classic for over 25 years, with a strong local following, and a favorite of many dignitaries, pro-athletes and notable figures visiting San Diego from Latin America that were in search of the best authentic Cuban & Puerto Rican food. For the best seating, ask for table 7. An evening meal at Andrés is a delicious experience.

In an atmosphere of tropical plants, romantic background music and attentive service by the Mera family, so you know that authentic Cuban and Puerto Rican cuisine is served.

These savory meals, with their authentic spices, include simmered black beans, delicious yucca root, pork, fresh seafood, chicken and steak. And with 24-hour notice, you could have a delicious Cuban version of paella.

Consider trying an excellent Puerto Rican dish is called pollo a la plancha. It’s a boneless chicken breast marinated in lemon and garlic, grilled and smothered with onions. It’s served with rice and Cuban-style black beans. Meals include homemade soup or fresh green salad with a savory vinaigrette dressing and garlic bread.

For dessert have the homemade flan and a Cuban espresso. They have excellent imported beers and the largest selection of Latin American wines in San Diego.

They offer many delights from the islands, including beef with rich sauces simmered with garlic, onions and spices; delicious chicken dishes enhanced with garlic and saffron; and seafood entrées prepared with authentic Caribbean ingredients and original recipes – all are served with rice and their famous black beans accented with side orders of scrumptious fried plantains.

For a limited time, they also have an impressive Recession Buster’s Menu, with great lunches and dinner meals at affordable prices, available Monday through Thursday.

Andre’s Latin Market
Also featured next door, is their international Latin market (619-275-6523), which has been been providing San Diegans and visitors with the “hard to find” spices, food and non-food products from Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Costa Rica, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Spain, Colombia and Venezuela.

Their market has enabled many Latin Americans to continue their home cooked traditions by providing wide selections of products that are not found in most traditional stores and they ship their products nation wide, for the convenience of people who live out of state.

For Andre’s customers that love to cook at home, they are also happy share some of their our own recipes and will even offer some “motherly” advice to help them through the process of cooking!

This is a fabulous restaurant featuring the finest tasting Indian cuisine in San Diego. Their all-you-can-eat lunch buffet and dinner buffet are very popular. However, it is from their extensive menu that you will find the truly memorable Indian cuisine that has made Ashoka the Great so well known. And you can also order your meal to taste, be it mild, medium or spicy hot. A definite crowd-pleaser is the chicken tikka masala. It’s pieces of boneless chicken breast marinated in spices and yogurt and roasted, then blended in one of their many delicious curry sauces.

Their curries are hard to beat, as are their tandoori delicacies. Be sure to order a mangolassi, which is a classic Indian drink make with yogurt and mangos. And no Indian meal should be eaten without an order of their garlic naan. Vegetarians will definitely be pleased with their many selections, as well. This award winner is a perfect choice for outstanding Indian cuisine.

Open daily for lunch, 11 a.m.–4 p.m. and dinner, 4 p.m.–10 p.m.; Sat. and Sun., 11 a.m.–10 p.m. ($16–$20). Daily buffet lunch ($10.95) and buffet dinner Mon. and Tues. only ($14.95).

This delightful medium-sized restaurant has a loyal following of happy diners. And once you dine here, you will undoubtedly become a regular too! Baja Cactus has a loyal following because the food is exceptional, the atmosphere is as authentic as that of old Mexico, the decor is upscale and the service is prompt and friendly. With these kind of ingredients, you can’t go wrong! Diners who know good-tasting Mexican food will rejoice when they sample the mole poblano, which is a traditional Mexican meal. It’s tender chicken smothered in a rich brown sauce that’s made of dried chilis, chocolate and savory spices.

This entrée is as good as it gets! Another savory selection is the pescado a la Ensenada, which is a marinated halibut steak grilled to perfection. Even their chile rellenos get high marks! Save room for their renowned homemade twelve-layer apple pie. You’ll be glad you did! Catering. Good Mexican beer and local wine. Food to go. Credit cards: .

Add quick service and excellent tasting Mexican food for good reasons to dine here. Ask to sit on their patio overlooking the Old Town Plaza in historic Old Town State Park.

Entrées of special note include the Chicken Mole Oaxaca topped with pablano mole sauce. Another winner is their fajita platter with your choice of chicken, beef or shrimp. Most meals are served with rice and beans and a corn or flour tortilla. The peach cobbler with plantains is an excellent conclusion to a delicious meal.

On Mondays, kids 10 and under eat free when accompanied by an adult patron (one adult per child). And if it’s your birthday month, come here to celebrate it on the fifth of the month and you’ll receive a free meal when you purchase a beverage. So bring your friends and have a ton of fun! There are always lots of good reasons to celebrate at Barra Barra!

This place is a favorite dining destination for residents and out-of-towners alike. The reason for its local appeal is that it’s surrounded by apartments, condos and single-family homes. Plus, their chef, who graduated from a famous culinary school, creates memorable entrées at affordable prices. It’s an unbeatable combination.

And their menu which changes every three months always gets rave reviews. The glazed salmon filet appetizer, for example, is finished with sesame seeds and will definitely get your attention. So will the sizzling Kansas City 12-oz. bone-in New York strip steak accented with a tantalizing herb butter.

Also very memorable is the cioppino, which is made with fresh fish, shrimp, scallops, clams and calamari simmered in their flavorful tomato broth with a hint of fennel. It’s served with a toasted baguette slice of bread. The white sea bass is also a showstopper. Desserts like their fruit cobbler or their tantalizing sorbets will seal the deal and make you a regular at Bistro 39. Ask about their wine dinners, too!

From the moment you enter, you know this restaurant is special. The graceful waterfalls, the upscale decor, the gracious staff and serene atmosphere welcome you. And the cuisine is equally as wonderful with a delicate blend of spices that tantalize and please the palate.

Curry never tasted so good. There are 10 different curry dishes that can be made with chicken, fish, lamb, shrimp or duck. And there are three degrees of spiciness to choose from. Each dish has a different blend of curry.

The tikka masala is extremely popular. Its creamy sauce with spices and garlic tastes best with chicken. Each dish is served with basmati rice. This is exquisite aged rice that is light, fragrant, fluffy and perfect with curry. There are also vegetarian curries and tandoori plates. You will want to return here again and again. For a romantic table for two ask for number 12 or 17.

Well known for their buffets, they feature an amazing lunch buffet from 11am to 2:30pm every day ($9.95), alongside an exotic dinner buffet on Monday, 5 p.m.-9 p.m. Adults are ($15) and the cost per child is ($1) per each year of age, up to 15.

This is not just another Italian restaurant. It’s a dining destination! You can even get a table in the kitchen with early reservations. Or if you are coming with a group of people, reserve the Godfather room. As for the decor, the walls are filled with photos of famous Italians and candid photos of daily life in Italy. Great-tasting Italian cuisine is served family-style by friendly servers who are more than willing to help you select what to order.

A great starter is the antipasto salad loaded with lettuce, olives, peppers, onions, prosciutto and Gorgonzola cheese. Be sure to ask for an order of their delicious garlic bread!

Highly recommended are their cheese-stuffed ravioli and four cheese pizza, as well as a wonderful variety of pizzas and pastas. They also have specials nightly. Save room for their homemade cheesecake. Definitely dine here!

Winner in 2010 for Best Steak House Casual at the Gold Medallion Awards. Here, the locals have been gathering for four decades to enjoy this restaurant and popular cocktail lounge. It’s also the perfect place to view sporting events. Since its establishment in 1971, Bully’s East has served more prime rib than any other San Diego restaurant, preparing only USDA choice, Midwestern, corn-fed aged beef.

Prime rib lovers will be delighted that they serve prime rib in 8-oz. cuts all the way up to “Beast” that weighs in at a whopping 38-oz. Diners who can finish this impressive steak will get to join Bully’s East’s Club 38 and receive a free T-shirt. Prepared by Chef Luis Martinez, the eclectic menu offers filet minon, top sirloin, rib eye, porterhouse, fresh seafood, ribs, chicken and daily specials. It has been a longtime gathering place for professional athletes and sports officials as well as visitors.

The bar is well stocked and their personable bartenders are delighted to mix up your favorite libation. You may enjoy “full-service dining” at both the main bar and the legendary “horseshoe” low bar. They serve over 30 different appetizers and a Bistro Bar menu. Enhancing your dining experience are the patented cozy red leather booths. They also have nice table seating for families and large groups. Desserts are no less spectacular. Desserts range from warm bread pudding with whiskey caramel sauce to their awesome chocolate lava cake a la mode. Top off your meal with a famous kheoki coffee. When San Diegans think of prime rib Bully’s East is their first choice.

At the eastern tip of romantic Harbor Island are two restaurants under one roof, Island Prime and C Level Lounge, which offers dazzling views of the bay and the downtown San Diego skyline.

For spectacular seating at C Level Lounge, ask for table 212 or ask to sit outdoors on their bayview patio. The key note to what makes Chef Deborah Scott’s C Level Lounge exceptionally good and highly recommended is that all the entrées emphasize good taste and good health. One such entrée is Kemo Sabe’s black and white sesame salmon.

Other winners are the blackened catfish and the chili rubbed 10-oz. prime flat iron steak. Also served is a host of 16 appetizers and excellent desserts. An excellent conclusion to a memorable meal is their key lime pie, which is as big as it is delicious.

When you’re driving on Garnet Avenue, this restaurant is easy to recognize. This is because the building is circular, which adds to its uniqueness and charm. This local beach area favorite is one of two great Italian restaurants owned by the same family. The other restaurant is Solare Ristorante Lounge at historic Liberty Station in Point Loma.

Both restaurants are overseen by owner/chef Stefano Ceresoli from Milan, Italy. He and his talented chefs create memorable meals made from scratch with the freshest of ingredients. In fact, they rarely use butter or cream to create these delicious masterpieces. Plus, the restaurant is certified green. Their signature dish is the homemade ravioli.

Another memorable main course selection is the fresh halibut alla checca sautéed with garlic and white wine. Another is the Filetto al Barolo, which is a tantalizing filet mignon in a delicious Barolo reduction. Caffe Bella Italia is a wonderful and charming restaurant, where locals and Italians love to dine and they have a very impressive wine list. To reach them with regards to Banquets, Catering & Weddings, call (858-623-8588).

Open for dinner daily 4:30 p.m.-10 p.m.; lunch Sat., 12 p.m.-4 p.m. Sun. & Tues. is 50% off wine (limit 2 per table). Early Bird Specials any day of the week 4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Order one entrée and receive a second one (of equal or lesser value) for half off.

San Diego’s famous restaurateur, Dianne Powers, has opened her newly relocated We Casa de Bandini restaurant at The Forum in Carlsbad. The architecture and decor are reminiscent of Mexico’s beautiful and festive haciendas. Diners will enjoy fresh, delicious Mexican cuisine to the tune of the lively mariachi band, in an environment that showcases many beautiful facets of Mexican culture.

Its impressive decor features colorful dining rooms and magnificent patios replete with enchanting lighting, splashing fountains, and lush landscaping. You will find many familiar features from their original location such as the original hand-carved stone fountain; the antique leaded-glass door dividers; the chandeliers; and our magnificent collection of Santos and antiques; even the hand-painted wall borders that were inspired by those painted in the California missions have been lovingly created.

At the center of your dining experience will be their award-winning regional cuisine expertly created using quality ingredients and sauces prepared fresh daily. They also specialize in unique seafood entrees, several healthy choices with calorie and nutritional information and, of course, the same frosty giant margaritas that San Diegan’s have craved for decades.

This impressive Mexican restaurants in Old Town’s State Historic Park is a real find. The atmosphere is warm and festive and the food is delicious. At night you can even dine under the stars. An added plus is that they also feature live Mexican music while you dine.

Of course a great way to start is with one of their huge frosty and famous Cadillac margaritas. While their legendary house margarita is excellent, their Angel’s Share, which is made with Gran Centenario Rosangel Tequila is even better! A great beginning to any meal is their hearty albondigas soup, which was the best-tasting albondigas soup this reviewer has ever had.

Also recommended are their moist chicken tamales made with white corn and filled with spicy chicken, then topped with their enchilada and suiza sauce. Just as enjoyable are their hearty combos such as their enchilada and taco plates.

Their carne asada and guacamole burrito is yet another winner. It’s made with a thinly sliced flat steak that is marinated in beer and charbroiled with onions, tomato and garlic. For dessert have their peach cobbler with cinnamon ice cream.

This festive, happy and friendly Mexican restaurant is celebrating 40 years of success. They have everything you’re looking for and a whole lot more. A big attraction is that it sits atop the air tower at Montgomery Field, offering diners an unobstructed view of private and commercial planes taking off and landing at the airport.

While this is a big attraction, it isn’t what brings customers back again and again. It’s the delicious, beautifully-presented Mexican food and the friendly atmosphere that brings diners back again and again. A real showstopper is the best tasting chicken and shrimp fajita you have ever had in your entire life. It’s heaped with buttered shrimp, savory strips of chicken, and strips of sliced green bell pepper, lots of sautéed onions and tomatoes.

Another winner is the chicken mole, which is as savory as it is delicious. A perfect conclusion to a memorable meal is the apple cinnamon tortilla with a scoop of ice cream. For taste, selection, atmosphere and an awesome view, this is the place.

Don’t forget that they have a very impressive Champagne Brunch on Sundays, from 9am-3pm ($12.95). Open for lunch and dinner Mon.–Thurs., 11 a.m.–9 p.m., Fri. and Sat. till 10 p.m.,
and Sun., 9 a.m.–9 p.m., ($9.50–$15.25). House specials ($9.25–$13.50).

With over 25 locations worldwide, the Chart House Restaurants are the best of the best when it comes to making sure that your dining experience is superb! This location has a breathtaking oceanfront setting with floor to ceiling glass windows and an inspiring view of the pounding surf.

The main course selections include fresh fish from around the world and perfect tasting steaks. Highly recommended is their six-ounce filet mignon, which is wrapped with bacon, baked in a pastry shell and topped with a classic bernaise sauce. It’s superb!

The renowned chefs at the Chart House have tailored a menu to complement local cuisine while introducing a hint of the exotic. They offer top-of-the-catch seafood, succulent steaks and decadent desserts.

Other famous entrées of theirs include the Snapper Hemingway, Shrimp Fresca and a succulent, slow roasted Prime Rib. Also available is a daily selection of fresh fish, an extensive collection of fine wines and whiskies, and decadent desserts.

For dessert, I recommend the piéce de résistance is hot chocolate lava cake topped with Dreyers vanilla ice cream. The Chart House is a perfect place to dine for any occasion.

Open for lunch and dinner daily.

Fresh, delicious Chinese cuisine that’s fast and affordable is what you can expect at City Wok. Their friendly servers greet you the moment you walk in and are more than happy to help you choose from their extensive menu.

A great beginning to any meal is the hot and sour soup. It’s made with all-white meat chicken, tofu, egg, bamboo shoots, woodear mushrooms and fresh chicken broth. As for their entrées, you have your choice of nearly 60 beef, shrimp, pork, chicken, vegetable, noodle, rice and house specialties.

Worthy of rave reviews is the signature City Wok shrimp. It’s light and crispy shrimp in their own sweet and pungent sauce served with fresh steamed broccoli. Another popular dish is the moo goo gai pan. It’s juicy chicken sautéed with fresh mushrooms, carrots and snap peas.

Of course you’ll also find classic Chinese dishes like chow mein, sweet and sour pork, Mongolian beef and kung pao chicken. Whether it’s for dinner or take-out City Wok will quickly become your favorite neighborhood Chinese restaurant.

From high atop the 11th floor of the Hotel La Jolla is the one and only Clay’s La Jolla. Fabulous-tasting progressive California bistro cuisine is artistically created by owner/chef Clay Bordan. And new this season is an equally impressive vegetarian menu. Add a breathtaking panoramic sunset ocean view. Ask for table 12. A savory recommendation is the certified Angus New York steak.

A delicious vegetarian entrée getting rave reviews is a savory goat cheese ravioli dish. It’s made with spinach and ovendried tomatoes in a fresh chive garlic cream sauce and topped with pine nuts. Not to be overlooked is the cedar roasted wild salmon. Great complements to any meal are the lobster bisque with Point Rayes blue cheese, brioche, crostini and chive essence. Equally delicious is their specialty salad made with goat cheese, blue crab and shiitaki mushrooms.

Not to be overlooked are their incredible desserts. A romantic rooftop setting and exceptional cuisine make Clay’s an absolute winner. Open for breakfast ($8–$15), lunch and dinner ($19.95–$33). Vegetarian entrées ($22–$26). Also featuring the Sky Lounge with extended daily happy hour 4 p.m.–7 p.m. with drink specials and half off appetizers. Live entertainment Wed.–Sun.

Country cookin’ at its old-fashioned best is what you can expect when you dine at this outstanding breakfast and lunch only restaurant. Yes, they’re famous for fabulous-tasting strawberry country waffles, but they’ve also made a name for themselves with their country omelets, flapjacks, Swedish crêpes, French toast, country lunches, sandwiches and country fresh salads. And you’ll rave about their hamburgers!

For those taking their mornings seriously, the country breakfast ($8.95) is hard to beat. It includes a slice of ham or a one-third pound sausage patty, or a chicken – fried steak with three fresh eggs. Plus, they serve country potatoes or hash browns, biscuits and gravy. No one goes home hungry from here. Also popular are fresh squeezed orange juice, freshly baked biscuits covered with country gravy and served with three sausage links and country potatoes or hash browns.

In one of La Jolla’s most romantic settings, this restaurant overlooks the ocean and the beautiful La Jolla Cove. Romantic sunsets and dramatic views are the order of the day. And the cuisine is just as great. For a really romantic table, ask for table 7 or 20 inside, or table 75, 76 or 77 outside. As you would expect, fresh seafood is the specialty. A real crowd pleaser is the pan-seared Pacific king salmon, which is served with a port wine balsamic glaze, haricot vert and grilled radicchio salad, celery root and horseradish purée and a Meyer lemon crème fraiche.

Another winner is the flame grilled sushi grade ahi served with nori and sesame sticky rice, spicy savory cabbage and oyster mushrooms with a miso ginger sauce. The Alaskan king crab legs are good, as is the filet mignon and the grilled Australian double lamb chops. Another plus is the Oyster Bar, which is open daily after 3 p.m. It is the perfect place for shellfish delicacies. This is California dining at its best.

Their two dozen main course selections include, Alaskan king crab legs, seasonal soft-shell crab, local spiny lobster, and chargrilled filet mignon. They even stock live Maine lobster for broiling! Childrens menu. Meeting and party rooms. Validated underground parking.

Open for lunch and dinner daily with an impressive Champagne Brunch on Sundays starting from ($12). Open for lunch Mon.–Sat., 11:30 a.m.– 3 p.m. ($10–$30); dinner daily 5:30 p.m.–10 p.m. ($18–$50). Sunday Brunch 10:30 a.m.– 3 p.m. ($8–$24). Happy hour Mon.–Fri., 3 p.m.–9 p.m. including Thurs. and Fri. martini night, which is from 3 p.m.–9 p.m. ($5). Sushi bar open Thurs.–Sat. after 3 p.m.
