Fiddler’s Green (12), which is located on Shelter Island, is one of our city’s great San Diego Restaurants. And this reviewer, who has dined here since the 1960′s has never hand a bad meal. It stands above all of the rest for it’s classy nautical decor, congenial service and a superb menu filled with delicious entrees such as their grilled chicken breast, aged steaks and lots of fresh seafood selections. You just can’t go wrong, when you dine here.

Originally, it was the first Chart House built in San Diego back in the 1960′s, and owner Steve Rock, who was once the manager here, bought it and has built a solid reputation and a loyal following of repeat customers.

All of the entrées are worthy of rave reviews including the house specialty, which is an incredibly delicioustasting butterflied, coconut-battered shrimp with three dipping sauces. Then there are four delicious cuts of slowroasted prime rib and locally harpooned swordfish served with a fresh fruit salsa. These incredible meals include steamed vegetables and your choice of an Idaho baked potato with whipped butter, sour cream and chives or garlic mashed potatoes, rice pilaf, soup or salad and warm sourdough or squaw bread.

An appetizer must (when in season) is the steamed artichoke served with drawn butter and sun-dried tomato aioli. For dessert you must have the irresistible brownie sundae.

As for seating, there isn’t a bad seat in the house. For the best booth ask for number 8.
They also have a private dining room, which is ideal for banquets, birthday parties and rehearsal dinners.

And their cocktail lounge with its outdoor terrace is a frequent gathering place for happy locals who come here after a day of sailing or working on their boats at one of the many yachting marinas that comprise the Shelter Island Area. The nautical setting and nautical crowd that frequent this place make this restaurant a very special find for
good food and happy people.
